Sabah Dive Adventure: A Guide to Diving in Semporna
Follow my journey through Sabah's stunning dive spots, with costs, tips, and highlights for your next adventure.
Many of you have been asking where I've been diving and where I completed my Advanced Open Water (AOW) certification. Here’s the full adventure in Sabah, with a breakdown of costs, top sites, and insider tips at the end of the post.
Day 1: Arrival and First Dive
We arrived at Tawau Airport at 11 am. After a 75-minute drive to Semporna, we grabbed lunch and headed to ND Divers, where we’d be staying for four days.
Highlights: Night dive at the House Reef, with lionfish, bioluminescent plankton, and seahorses. Unforgettable first night dive experience!
Tip: Prepare for your night dive with a focus on slow movements to witness the magical bioluminescent plankton.
Day 2: Diving at Mabul Island
We started our day with a sunrise view, breakfast, and preparation for our dives. Three dives at Mabul Island were filled with beautiful marine life like nudibranchs, triggerfish, and turtles.
Skill Focus: Peak buoyancy performance training was our main task, helping us navigate underwater with precision.
Day 3: Island Exploration
On day three, we took a break from diving to explore Bohey Dulang and Sibuan Island. The trek up Bohey Dulang rewarded us with panoramic views.
- Bohey Dulang: A moderate hike (20-40 mins) for a breathtaking scenic view.
- Sea Gypsies Village (Bajau Laut): A unique visit arranged by our guide. We brought supplies like bread and bananas for the villagers.
- Sibuan Island: Stunning stretches of white sand, ideal for snorkeling and beach relaxation.
Day 4: Departure and Reflection
We relaxed at ND Divers, packed up, and prepared for our return journey. Reflecting on the dives and experiences, we felt grateful for such an adventure.
